Cheekbones! Her book "white teeth" was one of my favourites during my last years at school. Certainly more of a favourite than all the books by Dead White Men the teachers made us read for class. ;-)
It's a great book. I read it years ago and I still find myself periodically thinking of scenes and characters. Joyce's furious cheese-eating. Marcus' detached, wrong-headed judgments. Irie straightening her hair - that about broke my heart.
I love her freckles! Totally loved White Teeth when I read it in college. I read her next two books also but didn't connect with them as much. I keep meaning to see the BBC miniseries based on White Teeth!
